your title question....

Identifying alters?

how a person identifies their alters depends upon what treatment programs they are using. … some treatment plans are such where you don't spend a lot of time focusing on each individual alter, charting them, identifying who and what they are. these treatment plans are more focused on stabilization and learning how to handle daily life as a whole, some treatment plans focus not on diagnosis and identifying and charting/ mapping but rather on what a persons problems and symptoms are, then theres other treatment plans where you use specific "Parts" therapy work to identify the most imporntant/ most active reactive alters and using things like charts/ scales and mapping.

my suggestion is talk with your treatment providers they will tell you what therapy approaches / techniques they use and whether your treatment plan includes identifying your alters/ mapping your alters.

your post question....

Does alters using names or avatar pictures make DID worse?

since you stated you have DID in past posts you already know the answer but in case you are having a hard time right now....

DID is not something that depends upon computerized user names and gaming pictures other wise called avatar pictures.

its a mental disorder that begins in childhood before a person is 5 years old due to extreme trauma. DID is not about games and being online and names.

just like you pick the books you like to read and you pick the things you like to do, people online pick user names and avatar pictures that they like.

I picked my user name because when I registered the websites name generator software told me that name was available. I picked my avatar picture from the list that is available on psych central for avatar pictures. I sometimes change my avatar picture when I want a change and when going through psych centrals avatar pictures I pick the one I may like at that moment.

it has nothing to do with my mental disorders and whether it will make me better or worse. its based on what the sites software says is available.
