K_J, while I was thinking about your question, I realized that I was having trouble separating "spirit" and "soul" so I looked them up. Some of the info comes from Wikipedia and nothing from any religious book. Here they are:

SPIRIT:
the vital principle or animating force within living things
any incorporeal supernatural being that can become visible (or audible) to human beings
emotional state: the state of a person's emotions (especially with regard to pleasure or dejection); "his emotional state depended on her opinion"; "he was in good spirits"; "his spirit rose"
The English word "spirit" comes from the Latin "spiritus" ("breath").
SOUL:
the immaterial part of a person; the actuating cause of an individual life
The soul, according to many religious and philosophical traditions, is a self-aware ethereal substance unique to a particular living being. In these traditions the soul is thought to incorporate the inner essence of each living being, and to be the true basis for sentience.
The soul, according to many religious and philosophical traditions, is the self-aware essence unique to a particular living being. In these traditions the soul is thought to incorporate the inner essence of each living being, and to be the true basis for sapience (usually defined as wisdom since it is the ability of an organism or entity to act with judgment.), rather than the brain or any other material or natural part of the biological organism. Some religions and philosophies on the other hand believe in the soul having a material component, and some have even tried to establish the weight of the soul. Souls are usually considered to be immortal and to exist prior to incarnation.
The concept of the soul has strong links with notions of an afterlife, but opinions may vary wildly, even within a given religion, as to what may happen to the soul after the death of the body.

For me to look at nature, from a large expanse down to the smallest flower bud or seedling, can make me feel what people call "spiritual." Music, even non-religious music can have this effect on me. Holding any of my grandkids, from the 14 yr old (yes, he still sits on my lap) down to the 2 yr old can make me feel spiritual. Sometimes even looking at my husband or my grown children can make me feel awe and induce a spiritual feeling.
After having studied the meaning for spirit and soul above, I realize that it's difficult for me to separate these two and even more difficult to separate the feelings I've described above from the thankfulness and the awe I feel towards the Creator of all these things.
IMO, none of these wonderous gifts would be possible without the Creator. *I* wouldn't be possible without the Creator.
An afterlife is a fact for me. That's the only reason I can find for life here on Earth and all the troubles as well as the blessings that I've experienced. Everything has been a learning experience for me, starting with my abuse as a child. There was a reason for it.
Also, I've experienced the "energy" or "spirit" of those gone on ahead of me, good as well as bad. I know there's something left after the body dies.
So... what makes me feel spiritual? All of the above because I can't disconnect them from the Creator who made them.
