mental illness 'labels' are also viewed in my family as having something "wrong" with you, like almost worse than cancer or 'real' illnesses/diseases! so naturally, the more labels I would 'pile up' would have an adverse affect, in relation to the people in my life.

I struggle with the same thing with my family members. They see success as "mentally healthy." They see failure as "mentally ill." They believe that "people can just snap out of it; that they are causing their own mental illness."

Trust issues, yup, been there! With doctors, especially. They're not trained in diagnosing mental illness; they shouldn't be seeing that as a "differential diagnosis" immediately, without first ruling out actual medical/physiological/neurological disorders first. Good luck if you have chronic fatigue syndrome! No one knows what to believe or how to treat it.
