I suffer from both depression and suicidal thoughts. They are like 2 twist ties wound together. You can't address 1 without addressing the other. Yet that's exactly what everyone wants to do. The mental "hospitals" are just designed to keep you safe and medicated. They don't deal with the underlying causes. Yet psychiatrists who deal with depression say I need a higher level of care because I'm suicidal & won't help me with my depression.
There are clinics around (not that I really want to do that) that have in patient programs that are supposedly great for treating depression. However they won't accept you if you're suicidal.
It's like having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. You're told to remove the jelly but leave the peanut butter. You just can't do it. You can't treat my depression and leave the suicidal problems for someone else to deal with.
