My little sister (17) got put on fluoxetine (10mg) and ativan (14x 1mg).
I'm very conservative with this. It's her decision to take the fluoxetine because it makes it less likely that she'll be addicted to the Ativan. But I took fluoxetine and it made my panic attacks worse (Because they were psychedelic dissociative panic attacks based on serotonin). She has a bit of OCD so it could work idk. Before I took psychedelics, I was never anxious on fluoxetine.
Ativan should be taken only twice a week (Liberal) or once a week to every two weeks (Conservative) to avoid tolerance. If you take it once a day for 1-2 weeks, it becomes ineffective and tolerance is 100% so when you don't take it, the brain has as much anxiety that the benzo was taking away.
I took Ativan because my panic attacks were dissociative panic attacks that would last until I fall asleep (3+ hours of intense severe panic where NOTHING could calm me down - heart beating fast, shaking, zoned out) or take 2-3 benzos.
My sisters panic attacks only last for less than an hour or the time it would take until the ativan takes to kick in.
But another approach would be to just take ativan and build tolerance and take more until she's done with school and then withdraw from it (Because fluoxetine could make her focus less on her school work and do bad in school).
At least she's getting treatment. But I think treatment is very bad since psychedelics are illegal and they're known to help with depression and anxiety much better than SSRI's and benzos.
