Hey @Fuzzybear: This is the definition of insanity:
Quote:
in·san·i·ty
/inˈsanədē/
Learn to pronounce
noun
the state of being seriously mentally ill; madness.
"he suffered from bouts of insanity"
Similar:
mental illness
mental disorder
mental derangement
madness
insaneness
dementia
dementedness
lunacy
instability
unsoundness of mind
loss of reason
delirium
hysteria
mania
psychosis
craziness
crazedness
deliration
Opposite:
sanity
extreme foolishness or irrationality.
plural noun: insanities
"it might be pure insanity to take this loan"
What you are describing is more of a saying or cliche. It is popular in recovery circles. In regards to recovery yes doing the same thing and expecting different results is a version of the idea of insanity. Or needing to set boundaries and not setting them and wondering why a relationship wont change but generally its not really meant to be used in regards to mental illness or mental help or someone in crisis. Its cruel if people say that to you and you are experiencing ptsd or a crisis. ((HUGS))

The definition of ''insanity'' is keeping on ''doing'' the same things..
and hoping for different results

It reminds me of the ''choice'' few words a someone (in real life) not so generously offered me, maybe it might have helped a ''normal'' 4 year old with a mild tummy upset, not someone who had been traumatised and abused. Silly me for thinking someone might give a crap about me, in real life. Stupid stupid me

(not about anyone on pc)
