Of course you have every right to be angry. Medication and therapy must help some people, however. You're right to point out that it doesn't help EVERYbody. It sounds like the media exacerbates the problem (not to mention the producers of such medication), but the real issue is education. Since most people aren't pharmacologists, they have to get their news on the subject where they can (e.g. the media). If we're to overcome this as a society, we have to provide an alternate place to learn about this (e.g. Psych Central), or, even better, get to the point where we don't have to try to hide depression and are able to educate people ourselves. It might be a while before you start seeing out-of-the-closet depressives wearing their "Ask me about Clinical Depression!" T-shirts.
I hope this doesn't come across as snotty or anything. I'm fascinated by this sort of discussion, and would welcome it if I could come out of the closet enough to actually debate with people when they accuse me of just being lazy or apathetic.
