I smoke on a daily basis for multiple reasons, but one of the biggest ways it helps me is to forget traumatic incidents that have happened in my past. I feel like it helps me to come to terms with these subjects and move on with my life and focus on the future. It helps me to see the good in depressing situations and helps me to stay calm and composed in times of stress. I find it depends on the strain, an indica strain such as a kush or cheese helps with my anxiety and allows me to easily relax however a sativa strain will make me 10x worse. You just gotta make sure you have the right strain for you!!! I find out by going to Leafly and checking the negative side affects of whatever strain I'm smoking.
