Just reminded me of an example of sabotage at two office jobs I experienced this year. Both were front desk roles. When its decided that you need to be fired, a "file" is created with grievances or examples of incompetence on you. So, my first front desk role, the outgoing mail to detached offices was 90% of the job. The previous front desk gal was 20 years ago and I knew I was on my way out, when she started accusing me of sending the detached mail out to the wrong offices, without ever providing a shred of proof. Or, she'd accuse me of putting mail in the wrong mailboxes, or the compliance mail in the wrong mail boxes. Again, without any proof. Just telling me I was doing the mail wrong. So, that job ended. Then, this recent temp job I had, the same pattern emerged with the director of accounting. Previously, they had been without a receptionist for 6 months. Then, I was hired as a temp. I asked several people to provide me with emailed lists of names of companies of mail they did not want me to open. Well, the week before I was let go, the director of accounting started accusing me of opening mail I wasn't supposed to (yet she never showed me the mail or mentioned the name of the mail I "opened" incorrectly). She also said I was putting her mail in the wrong mail box (again, a total lie, b/c her mail had her name on it).
This is a perfect example of the dysfunctional behaviors that toxic leaders use to deceive, intimidate, coerce, or unfairly punish to get what they want for themselves. Both of my toxic leaders wanted me out of the front desk role, so they made up the same lies about me not doing the mail correctly as a reason to fire me. Asinine to be sure, but it worked as I was fired from both roles.
