The person wasn't mean so much as dismissive and cold shouldered. It might have partially been the way I took it, but partially the way it came across. Plus it was email, so much harder to read the person's intent in the written word. I'm trying to get a hold of a friend so I can talk through it. My impulse is to SH but I'm trying not to do that.
