Bpcyclist, my cats fill me up. I have six with distinctly different personalities, but it's a guarantee that if I need loving at least one of them will come cuddle with me. New Year's Eve four of them snuggled with me on the sofa.
Good for you for recognizing you are not in a good place to take on a dog right now. I disagree that cats or dogs are better. Both can show us love, but dogs are more work. They have to be walked, etc. Someone suggested checking out you local animal shelter. Excellent idea! Go, hang out with the kitties that are there. The one meant for you will pick you out.
