Hello Pedal: I see this is your first post here on PC. Welcome to Psych Central.

You mentioned you're starting therapy. (Today?) And, at least from my perspective, that's a good place to start with your efforts to progress in life. You didn't mention what type of therapy you're going to have. Perhaps one-to-one talk therapy? That may be a good place to start. However keep in mind there are additional options such as CBT, DBT & others. Plus not every therapist works well with every client. So if the therapist you're seeing doesn't seem to be a good fit, it's important to keep trying to find one who is. Sometimes this can take a bit of effort.

You wrote: "I am doubtful it’ll help me, I need something else, or someone to help me." My personal non-professional opinion would be that therapy really is what is necessary. I don't know what else, or who else, you might find that would be better. I think it's a matter of finding the right therapist for you, as well as the right kind of therapy, and then committing to it & sticking with it. That's the way to heal. There's no "free lunch", as the saying goes. It takes grit & determination to progress in life. And that's true for everyone. In the end you are the only person who can make that happen for yourself.

One additional forum, here on PC, that may be of interest to you would be the Psychotherapy forum. Here's a link:

https://psychcentralforums.com/psychotherapy/

And then here are links to 3 articles, from Psych Central's archives, on the subject of Dependent Personality Disorder:

Dependent Personality Disorder Symptoms

Dependent Personality Disorder Treatment

Dependent Personality Disorder FAQs

I hope you find PC to be of benefit.
