Your doctor will probably draw a basic set of labs to make sure the basic chemistry of your body is in balance.
Most family doctors are not aware of the influence of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) on depression and will not order a test beyond the Finger Stick Blood Sugar level.
A Thyroid test would be indicated if you had clinical symptoms of hyper or hypothyroidism.
Anti-Depression medications are a good start. I think you should consider going to therapy while on these medications so you can reduce the frequency and intensity of any future episodes of depression, long after you are off medication.
