I own a cell phone for car emergencies and to very occasionally text my sister. My phone is not connected to the internet. My husband doesn't own a cell phone at all. I will not compete with an electronic device, ever, under any circumstances, unless it's a true emergency.
If I'm with someone who finds their cell phone more interesting than I am, I remove myself from the situation so the two of them can be alone together.
I am absolutely sure that the majority of stress in society is due to the public use of electronic devices in favor of IRL communication.
Interestingly, my son and daughter-in-law live in San Francisco and both work in the tech industry. Whenever we're together they turn their phones off and put them away. I so appreciate their considerate behavior.
