I am getting increasingly impatient with people reading their phones and texting at meals.
Much of this teaches people to be absent from their immediate environment
It's increasingly difficult to find people genuinely working on being Present for themselves and/or in their relationships with others.

I heard a lady telling a story about her "lunch group," who are old friends all getting together once a month for lunch. The first gathering was horrible. Everyone was on their phones. texting, etc.
At the beginning of the second meeting, Cindy asked the whole group to place their phones in the middle of the table. She'd then explained that the first person to pick up their phone, before the lunch gathering had officially ended, had to pay the tab for the group! I am not sure as to how this had worked out for them, I thought it an interesting approach!

I've also heard of hostesses taking both coats and phones at the door! Imagine that!
I think both strategies get their point across and help to raise consciousness around the chronic obsession with phones/devices.

"Be where you are!"
Good post
