You have seen that by leaving or explaining, you might be too attached to the process.
Kindly, I ask if the bigger problem might be the anxiety you have.

The answers are not "explain or not."
There are other options.
Find a new therapist and talk about your situation.
You'll be able to work the problem better.
You may decide to go back and explain.
You could write a letter, return to your therapist and discuss the letter together. You will be heard more clearly. It will also give you an opportunity to get some therapy through writing.
There are more options. Be original and creative. Be you. Be heard.
