Have you ever had to buy a greeting card and had difficulty sifting through each one, trying to find one that was appropriate to the situation? Don’t you find them very insipid? Do you over analyze their meaning? Do none of them fit your relationships?

I was remembering one my MIL gave me and my husband once. It read, “Dear Son and His Wife” Did that mean he was dear and I was well... his (not so dear) wife? I don’t think she outright dislike me and I hadn’t done anything to warrant that. But it’s very telling, right? I can now totally relate as I would probably send the same card to my son and DIL, if we were even speaking. Neither of them are ‘dear’ right now. There was a total rift.

I think it’s horrifically funny, though, every time I have to buy a greeting card. I usually just go for the most benign one. The gushy ones really never fit the recipient. This probably says more about me than them?

If you can relate, I’d like to hear your take on it.
