I wonder. Do you feel yourself strong enough to be only friends with him. If you still feel something more than friendship, and after reading what you wrote about his selfish attitude and his try to blaming you for wanting a change, I would keep also my distance as friends. At least, for a time.
After reading your explanations about not wanting to affect negatively to other people, I do completely understand you although my offer still remains.
