What happened was, the double vision made me see multiple steps at once. I couldn't tell which step was real or not, so when I tried to step down on the stairs, I guess the step I wanted to put my foot on was just an artifact of the double vision (i.e., it didn't exist). I then tried grabbing for the handrail when I missed that step so that I wouldn't fall, but of course I saw "two" handrails instead of one. I apparently grabbed the one that didn't exist. lol. Then I fell down on my arm and thumb.

Oh my! What a trouble!
When I was just starting Seroquel [I know this thread is about Lamictal, but I thought I'd share about falling.] I think, I kept feeling as though I would faint. I'd have to sit down really quickly in order not to fall over. This happened 2 or maybe 3 times in one evening. Pdoc said to next time take the Seroquel right before I got in bed- as in "Put in mouth, get into bed". That helped. I got into bed and then remembered that I needed to brush my teeth, so I got up and its only a step or two to my bathroom from the bed and I found myself standing in front of the mirror over the sink and boom! Faint again. That time, I sat down very quickly so as to not fall down. Then I crawled back to bed.
