Oh there was also a fun little cultural lesson when he asked if my father had ever been unfaithful to my mother and I said no, it would have gone against his moral code, and added that my father wasn't on speaking terms with his own father after his father took on a second (younger) wife while still being married to my grandmother.
My T's reaction was one of shock and he asked "was that allowed???" and I had to explain that yeah, that's still a thing in many parts of the world, and it was even more common back then.

My T knows about my cultural/ethnic background in theory, but I think he forgets about it most of the time because I look pretty white and it doesn't come up very often.
Maybe I should give him like a 5 minute primer on the history and culture of [country] because it's pretty impossible to understand my father's worldview and thus his parenting without it.
