@jaymoq I don't mean to usurp your thread, but I thought I'd give my 2 cents about dating a smoker.

I have someone I'd like to date. We've known each other over 10 years. We are best friends. We talk on the phone almost every day, but we live in different (neighboring) states. When we do get together- about once a year- he smokes. He smokes almost constantly. When we are in a hotel, he goes outside to smoke every so often. When we park at a restaurant, he lights up just from the car to the door of the restaurant. He complains about signs that say no smoking- even a whole-campus ban on smoking at a university we saw a show at. When we drive together, he puts the window down but so do I because I need fresh air and the smoke follows me. I just can't imagine that he would ever stop smoking for good. He says he's tried the gum. He says he's stopped smoking for two weeks but then went back to it. He makes comments while we are out saying "Its time to top up the nicotine tank..." He CAN sit for a whole show and not smoke- we saw a stand-up comedian and he never left to smoke- that I know of. In some way, he does want to quit, but over that, he just does not REALLY want to quit or he would be making more of an effort. He lives alone and drives for a living so he can smoke whenever he likes. Adding me to the mix would just complicate his relationship with cigarettes. He may not love them more than he loves me, but he is more devoted to them than he is to me. That relationship is a TIGHT bond. He smokes 2 packs + a day. He smells and tastes like cigarettes. I don't think we will ever have a real relationship because of his addiction.
