Has anyone had success or been turned down from this buy their insurance? I'm in the US.

I only recently came across this while looking for a therapist, they happened to be out of network. Though I can pay for out of network, and have a relatively low deductible but still bring it up in discussion. However he pointed out that, since I reached out to him for a specific treatment, I should check with therapists in-network first, and If there isn't many that have offer the same treatment and are accepting patients or even can't accommodate my schedule as easily I should look into getting a single case agreement.
There was less information than I expected.
But basically came to understand that it allows you to choose a therapist if they have a speciality or offer treatment in something that you can't find with therapist within your network and that it a treatment that you'd benefit largely from. So you approach you insurance saying why you'd benefit from this out of network therapist. And if you've already been through the most common ones like CBT then it helps your case a little more.

So I think that's the gist of it, but please tell me if I'm misinterpreting things. SO, anyone have experience?
