On the subject of dogs, there's a series called Survivors by Erin Hunter as well. (It's a pseudonym for multiple authors). It says "It's time for dogs to rule the wild". I don't know if these are lost pets or wild dogs, but it's about a pack of dogs trying to survive in the wild. I didn't research it much, but given the subject of surviving, I'm thinking terrible things happen.....

There's also a series called Seekers (I think), about young bears trying to survive.

And one called (I think) Bravelands. It's about an orphaned baby lion, baboon, and elephant trying to survive. I didn't want spoilers so I didn't look up too much about it. I believe those are the 3 species.....not sure. I do know there's probably over 100 juvenille books by this author, all about animals.

They have been around awhile. I don't know if any of them have been made into movies or if it's in the works.
