Someone on here mentioned that studies indicate that people don't know how much they are eating.
I do think it is a good tip to measure everything.
I would say my main diet problem is overeating and not realizing it. If I don't measure out oatmeal, for instance, before cooking it...if I just pour it out...I will pour much more than 1/2 cup dry oatmeal.
Now I try to eat things that are easy to calculate...like an egg...or an apple...or a piece of celery. I try to avoid things I have to portion out.
I hate measuring out every single thing I eat but I do think it makes a big difference.
