My elderly (15 year old) Maine Coon cat had been ailing for over a year. Vet said to just keep him comfortable. Finally, I had to take him to be put to sleep. After talking to me for a long time, we took him out of the carrier, and the vet said, " This cat is well past needing to be put to sleep." I knew that, but I had talked to the vet about things we could possibly do. I had Kitty put to sleep. My dog, age 13, Fozzie, threw up the morning I took Kitty to the vet. After that, Fozzie was quiet, didn't want to move from one place. Fozzie had health issues as well, but didn't seem ill or in pain, just quiet. I had brought Fozzie home from the pound rescue as an 8 week old pup. He was always with Kitty and they loved each other. Three days after putting Kitty to sleep, I woke up and couldn't find Fozzie, who always slept by my bed at night (big boy, Golden Retriever mix, who could no longer climb up on the bed). Calling for Fozzie thru all the rooms in my house, I found him passed away on my outside deck. I don't know what I could have done. I won't get any more pets.
