It's ok Beth, truth is it's not uncommon for older individuals to be this way. I actually have a hard time with video chats. And I just got a lift when I happened across the thread about this and Doc John shared that he felt the same way. I had a video chat session with my therapist and explained to him how I don't like seeing myself and feel it's too distracting. He explained how the insurance won't cover a phone session, but will cover a video chat. He explained that if I find seeing my own image distracts me too much that I can put a napkin over the camera on my phone and that will enable me to see him and not have to see myself.
Well, the younger generation is so used to video chatting and seeing themselves. That's not something I am used to and it's just too distracting for me. So, you can ask your therapist if it's ok if you cover the camera so you can see her but don't get distracted having to see yourself. I found it was more like a session where I could see my therapist and talk like I am used to doing.
It's ok if you feel uncomfortable, you can work around it and I think your therapist will understand this.
