Eh, there are a lot of stipulations with the coronavirus relief/stimulus. A lot of people won't actually get money, or if they do, it's only a fraction of what other people are eligible for.

Right now, politicians like Bernie Sanders have pointed out that a family of four (with the children being under 18) can earn up to $3600 in stimulus money despite only making maybe $1000 a month from their job (for example). So, I think the politicians are fighting over how much people should actually get. Some are saying that if a family is only making $1000 a month, then they should only get $1000 in stimulus aid and that people who make more should get more. However, there is still a salary consideration limit where anyone making above $95,000 gets nothing, while people who make between $75,000 and $94,999 can get a partial amount (e.g., they may get 50% of what people who make less than $75,000 are eligible for).

So, needless to say, it's complicated. I'm not saying I agree or disagree; I'm just sharing what I know.

People up here and in California tend to have very high salaries, where it's not uncommon for a lot of people to make $100k or more. The average salary in Boston alone is $77k, so automatically, a ton of people aren't eligible for the full check. So it really doesn't help out people in the northeast who have higher rents to pay, like $2700 a month. (I'm not saying they do or don't deserve a check. I'm just pointing out that it won't help out most people in Boston, NY, or California.)

The other thing is, there is so much disagreement on who gets money and how much that people probably won't see a stimulus check for a month or more. Lots of places are allowing delays on paying rent, etc., but at some point, they will no longer be able to afford to give people delays. The landlords have to make money too, and pay their staff. So by the time the check comes to everyone's house, a lot of damage will have been done when people are forced to dip into their savings (if they have any) to pay their bills. I'm not saying the check won't ultimately help, but it'll come after the financial damage has been done.
