This really sucks! Whoever yelled at you was out of line. You should call the store and report it to the manager. I'm sorry this happened to you.
I worked for a short period of time in a supermarket and it was drilled into us that the customer is always right. This would have been completely unacceptable behavior on the part of my store's staff. You could also tell them about the signs and maybe the signs should be right at the door. Everyone is on edge. We need to work together.
