I agree the film has a main theme of suicide would not reccomend anyone with suicidal ideations or thoughts to view this film without a mental health professional present.
I became obcessed with the film, the intensity of the emotions and the different geographical settings along with the time era's and views of mental illness were so much similar as yet different as today.
I have the DVD, and have viewed it alone in the dark hundreds of times, though not healthy, I believe I had a sense of identity to the main character, and all of the characters and aspects of life. So many phrases and lines of the characters I could identify and still can.
Given the sense I was not sucicidal while viewing it was a way for me to feel, the only way for me to feel as if or that I was not alone, as twisted as it is. They became my friends, and I was them in a sense. I could relate so much. Only could not relate to the choice of suicide.
Sorry, I will stop, as I said I am obsessed with the film.
