My daughter is working on her PhD. She finishes class work this fall. She has already presented at several conferences and had 2 papers published with her professors. Her doctorate will be in literacy and her dissertation on whether “graphic novels” (what we used to call comic books) teach new vocabulary to elementary school students better than traditional methods.

I’m especially proud of her because she was so overwhelmed socially by high school we took her out and she basically taught herself. She took the GED at 16, then went to community college, then university and now this!

I am encouraging her to collaborate with an artist and write educational graphic novels and/or write a book “From GED to PhD”.
