I live in a little townhouse on the water and last year was surprised when I found ducks coming out of my bushes! As the spring and summer went by, I had too much going on for them to nest there but a duck pair would come and eat my birdseed; I started buying ground corn to mix in and every morning would feed the mama duck (who was nesting 4 houses up in a better location) and the drake would stand protectively watching. Eventually he got more friendly but then aparently the nest was destroyed/disappeared and the poor mama still would visit the site wondering what had happened. She changed mates???? and a new male came and was really really suspicious of me, LOL. Then the old male came by himself for awhile; gets confusing, LOL.



But I walk in my kitchen to make my breakfast (cantalope and cottage cheese) and look out the window and there's my pair again! I happen to have bought bird food yesterday at the grocery store (they didn't have any ground corn yet) so I went out to throw her a "pile" instead of just the little I had out there for the sparrows and finches. The pair stood their ground, knew what was happening and didn't mind getting hit in the face with birdseed I was afraid to get too close yet. By the end of the summer last year, the female was getting quite aggressive and coming to me impatiently to get the food and heaven help me if I fumbled opening the container and it took longer!
