I will usually defer to their judgement BUT with the caveat that IF I don't like it I will not continue to take it and they need something ready in case that happens.
I've had two Pdocs tell me I would take what they prescribed or they would put me inpatient(needless to say those relationships didn't last very long. I don't respond well to threats)
Several that acted like they could not have cared less what I said.
And two including, my current, who listened/s and if I say no or tell her something just isn't working for me then she says "OK let's find/try something else."
One of my first Pdocs was a very good Pdoc and I forget about it a lot but she would listen to me. I never knew how rare she was until I went through a series of bad ones. Now that I have a good one again I will hold on this time
Also it helps if you can back the no up with a thought out reason instead of just no for the sake of no. BUT if you have a good Pdoc they should listen to you either way. Good luck
