Sometimes you have to take extra measures to be safe. If you find you are not safe driving, then you must find other ways to get to where you need to be, for the time being.
Added stress does this to someone who has been traumatized. It happens to everyone like that.
Are you reducing all the extra stress you can? Turn off the phones, if not for all day, then for a large part of the time you are there. Open your mail, bills one day a week when you are ready for it. Watch movies or listen to tapes and such that have no chance of bulletins or news of any sort. Read books that take you away from the thoughts of the event. Play intensive games that distract you. When you are out, feel free to tell others that you don't wish to hear about it, if they begin to share. (However, talking and talking and talking about it helps to work through it, and if there are others that do likewise, it will help you in the long run, if you are able.)
Before bed, indulge yourself and fill your mind with really good stuff!
Tell yourself it isn't happening now, it isn't.
