Hi Azul,

Yes, it's an interesting question. It's a question I see quite regularly on the internet, too. A lot of people have questioned the idea of internet 'friending' including myself, and if you're interested, the concept even has it's own Wikipedia page(!) Friending and following - Wikipedia

As a 51 year old, the concept of friendship, to me, is quite clear-cut, the same for you by the looks of things. But take me back to my twenties, and there we see my concept was quite different to how it is now. It's just my belief but I think the concept of friending on social media is more of a 'willy-nilly' adolescent way of what a friend is meant to be. Probably since a lot of social media websites were created by young people at the time.

I like the term 'contacts' better as well. And it should be up to the two parties involved as to whether or not they can consider each other proper 'friends'.
