Well my daughter and her fiancée went on a trip when things were already rather bad. They took a train and stayed in a bed and breakfast type of dwelling that was strangely open. Their rationale was “it is in the middle of nowhere and we will be hiking outside”. Hmmm

When they got back they promptly got sick (they are ok now). Yup. Stupid. Both college educated professionals not air heads and not party animals.

People do stupid idiotic things. Don’t beat yourself up.
