I think it's deplorable. He should call you since he's taking it upon himself to keep everyone informed.
I think it's wrong on so many levels. It reminds me of my siblings and they actually make me I'll with the things they do. They are crass and offensive and follow no sense of protocol or etiquette.
Please talk with your family and encourage him to stop what he has done in the past. There has to be a way you can stay informed about family life events without it being so crass.
