It is common for depression to set in in these situations. It is a normal brain response to the challenges and pains, physical and emotional. Opiates can sometimes exacerbate depression as well in some people, so, try to take what you need, but no more, if possible.
You will get through this. You will. These big belly operations are a huge, huge deal--I used to do them for a living. I know what you are dealing with.It is a lot.
If pain is an aissue, ask for a pain specialist consult. Those guys and gals have a zillion tricks for folks like you. Get one in and talk to her.
See if you can find anything to distract for a few minutes or hours. A movie, TV, some headphones, a mindless magazine or something. If the weather is decent where you are and they will let you, find a nurse to get your butt in the chair and outside for a few minutes of air. It helps. It does.
