At least half of the population has HPV. While it's not ideal by any means, it's not uncommon. My doctor discovered it on my cervix and I had the abnormal cells frozen off about 16 years ago; I have never had an abnormal Pap since then.
It is fairly rare that the cells turn into cancer, but for that reason, make sure that you get your Pap smears done regularly.
I know it's scary; but stay on top of your exams and always use a condom.
