I am so sorry you guys are dealing with this difficult scenario, bluish.
Of course, noone here can diagnose your hubby. But a good psychaitrist certainly could start that process and that is what I would strongly recommend. Bipolar disorder is highly variable from one person to another. Irritability and agitation are key features for a lot of folks, though. There are also what are often termed mixed episodes, which can have a kind of non-euphoirc, even dysphoric, mania component. This can appear on the outside as agitation, impatience, irritability, anger,, so on.
No idea if that is what is at play here. It is also possible that he could have some type of obssessive or compulsive issue going on, I suppose. I am not super knowledgeable about those disorders, myself.
Bipolar disorder can have onset at any age. We just had someone on this forum describe a mom who may have symptoms for the first time at 65, so, it can happen. My first manic and psychotic episodes were at 41.
So, a good psychiatrist is imperative, in my view. Of course, there are many outstanding therapists out there, but for a definitive diagnosis, I, myself, strongly advise a board-certified psychiatrist.
Sending you strength and support!! You can do this!!
