I remember reading about this when I was first in therapy and I didn't really get what it meant. This morning in meditation this term came up again for me. It came up surrounding my visit to a new pdoc this morning. The therapeutic alliance means so much to me.
It means that T and I are truly a team.

It also means that as a team we work together -- really together- toward a common goal. That goal is my health, my wellbeing. That "togetherness" requires an honest, open relationship where we trust one another, can speak freely to each other and care about and respect each other, but ALWAYS with the "therapeutic" goal in mind.
Wow, I feel so lucky to be part of this alliance.
How do you interpret the therapeutic alliance?

Yep... I've not heard of that term before, but that does make sense. I do see t and i as a team - really for the first time ever. Prior, it's always been the Professional and the ill. and i didn't like that balance at all. Soon, i hear, my team will be 3 or 4... T, MD, me and maybe a DID/MPD specialist. makes me nervous, but i am growing the trust that this will be ok. i am lucky - out of 5 t's i finally got a GOOD one!! Same on the MD's!
