When the lock down happened we had to go to Teletherapy but our work together did not transfers over to this new crazy world and online. I could not continue on with EMDR and Trauma work when I was already traumatized by the real world. I parted ways with him even though my attachment to him was so painful. What worked better for me was messaging a therapist a few times a day on BetterHelp.com. I would get a response at least twice a day. I liked the ability to just vent and not have everything be introspective from childhood. Yes it is a monthly enrollment but it is the same or less amount if I was paying a co pay twice a week and I get so much more! I can also do video therapy with him if I feel I need and it is not any extra.

When a child’s emotional needs are not met and a child is repeatedly hurt and abused, this deeply and profoundly affects the child’s development. Wanting those unmet childhood needs in adulthood. Looking for safety, protection, being cherished and loved can often be normal unmet needs in childhood, and the survivor searches for these in other adults. This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors.
