Hmm... I'd check into that if possible, make sure someone hasn't taken out a loan on a Chevy Malibu in your name. I don't mean to startle you about that, but I've been attending these classes at my local PD and they were talking about identity theft. That's definitely a red flag for you!
As for being awoken in the middle of the night with a start, I was in college and had gone with a bunch of friends to spend the weekend at one of our friend's house. It was during Oktoberfest and my friend was having troubles with his car. The lights went out and he was loosing power so we pulled off onto a side street to check it out. Well the cops were doing check points where they pull over everyone. Well they saw us with our lights off and followed us. They pulled up behind us and asked us why we were driving with the lights off. Well we said that's why we pulled off to a side road, we didn't know what was going on. Anyhow, the police CHAPLIAN was along with the officer. He called my friend's parents around 1:30am, he said, "Hello Mrs. So and So, this is the Blank Police Department Chaplain calling about your son. Then he went on to say how her son was having car trouble and needed someone to come drive us all back to her place. His mom said it was the worst way to wake up EVER!
My fiance is going through police academy right now and I was at work I got a call from the PD saying they needed to talk to me (I thought something was wrong with my fiance). I just about had a heart attack... turns out they needed my help in locating someone!
I understand how terrible that must have been to get a call in the middle of the night like that.
