There is such a thing as "social anxiety". I know from reading your introductory post you have one adult son at home. But if otherwise you've spent a significant amount of time avoiding social situations, social anxiety may be something you've developed. This is something I'm familiar with myself since, although I'm married, I otherwise lead a mostly reclusive lifestyle. And I experience some social anxiety as well.
