I've only read about my great grandfather's suicide in the newspaper from 1921 (he was rich and famous) and it affects me; my baby book has his name in my chart in the front with just initials; seemed odd to me that my mother would only put in his initials but she was only 7 when he died and she and her mother (and aunts; my great grandfather had 3 daughters and they all adored their father) were all vacationing down in San Francisco from Tacoma, Washington, where he drowned himself at his own pier (he was a lumber baron). The newspaper says the widow, my great grandmother wasn't told until the next day because there wasn't anyone close in town to be with her. I never heard a whiff of it, had to find it out through research!
