Yeah. Our government's approval is very low right now, and I am sure loosening up restrictions in those very populated areas will help with getting the approval numbers up.
I also wonder how much they are testing. Not doing enough tests can make the numbers look lower. I saw that in the last week, downtown Santiago only did 807 tests in the entire week before the decision to transition them out of quarantine was announced. This is for an area of about 500,000 people. It seems very low to me.
From the information I have been able to get about my municipality, they are doing a lot of testing of people at risk who don't have symptoms to actually identify and isolate cases, although I can't find exact numbers. For example, we have one of the few year-round homeless shelters in the country and they tested everyone there. Similarly, they are doing a testing campaigns for the drivers of shared taxis that are one of the typical ways to get around in more rural areas. Obviously driving different people around all day in an enclosed car puts them at risk, so I am sure they are finding positive cases.
