This happened to my mom when my father died because the credit cards were only his accounts. I opened credit cards as my own accounts and my husband and I charged things for both our accounts (separate) over the years, building credit for us both even though he earned the money and I stayed home. I was able to build my own credit. You still can, too. You can start now by opening one in your own name (not an authorized user on your husband’s card).
