1991: I go to get my first car. A ford Escort. I went with my brother so I wouldn't be taken advantage of. He totally whimped out and I had to wrestle the salesman down 2K. This was my first inkling that my brother, who I thought was competent was incompetent.

2000: I go to get my second car... ford Focus. I go with my dad so I won't be taken advantage of. My dad didn't talk the entire time. This was a first inkling my dad was succumbing to dementia.

2008: I am going to get a used car. A BMW. One I liked. I went alone. I got taken advantage of. The car leaked in the rain.

2013: I was in danger of losing my job. I got a ford festiva. Shockingly this was one of the best cars I ever had but it was terrible in the snow. The sales man was IMHO inappropriate trying to tell me in the car i needed to get out and meet a man.... told him twice in a nice way not to make me beep the horn and scream "stranger danger"

2016: I had a stable job and I went and got a Honda HRV.

Considering saving up for a real new BMW x1.
