If that is true... It conflicts with my philosophical beliefs a bit. I believe that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. We don't control where that balance comes from, it happens on more of a universal level.

I'm not sure the opposite is always the goal. A lot of times I need to first find neutral and then step into something else from there. Jumping straight to the other pole is often too much of a leap and feels disingenuous.

All of this is assuming I have the concept somewhat correct. Admittedly, I've never heard of it.

And I didn't respond because I found this helpful per say, but because you're my pal and the question interested me. Our west coast US friends may be just waking up. Give it a little time.
I'm not sure about it either. I think some of DBT maybe does feel a bit disingenuous, But I have not studied much of it at all, so I could easily be wrong. Thanks for your reply fern
