Mental health laws and proceedings vary state by state. And the effort and knowledge of attorneys varies by individual lawyer. It's a sad and frustrating process.
I work/have worked in a mental health unit at a hospital and am familiar with the involuntary treatment process here in Michigan. I know how imperfect and biased it can be. I do have the privilege of working with a few great attorneys who are good advocates for their clients, but even then they don't always win.
I can definitely understand your frustration.
