It looks like the cat likes a clean bathroom to use. Maybe it was waiting until it is cleaned. It would be interesting to know if after the cat had been to the toilet what would happen if you cleaned it straight away? Would the cat be busting to go to the toilet again?
Your cat sure does like to spread the litter around. Have you tried an enclosed litter tray. That might help contain some of the mess.
